About the Company
Throughout 600 years of political and financial turbulence, The Salters’ Company has thrived and adapted to the changing world. From the first Royal Charter in 1394 to today’s charitable activities and efforts on behalf of the advancement of chemistry as a field of study, The Salters’ Company has always been a significant contributor to the wider community.
While the Company is forward looking and alert to the need to keep pace with modern developments, it values its historical links with the City and the salt trade, its role with the other City of London Livery Companies in the elections of the City’s government and the preservation of its strong fraternal responsibilities towards its members.
By balancing these mandates, the Company has continued to remain relevant in today’s society, and in particular is one of the country’s most respected champions of improvements in science education.
