Military and Cadet Affiliations

 

The Company has two military affiliates and is associated with three cadet forces. Strong links have been forged over the years between Salters’ and its affiliates and this is maintained by the Master hosting an annual combined dinner in the Hall, although this is not always possible due to military commitments.

The King's Royal Hussars

The King’s Royal Hussars (KRH) is a regular British Armoured Regiment based in Tidworth and currently equipped with Challenger tanks.  The Salters’ Company has been affiliated to KRH since 1992 following the amalgamation of the Royal Hussars and 14th/20thKing’s Hussars (14/20H) to which the Salters’ Company had been formally affiliated since 1987.  There are several members of the Company who have served in KRH or 14/20H (six have been Master). The Company supports their Regimental Welfare Fund to assist soldiers and their families.

HMS VENGEANCE

HMS VENGEANCE is the fourth Vanguard class submarine of the Royal Navy and carries the Trident Ballistic Missile, the UK’s nuclear deterrent.  The Salters’ Company has been affiliated to HMS Vengeance since 2006. The Company supports the Submarine Fund of the Royal Naval Benevolent Trust.

South West London Army Cadet Force

The Army Cadet Force (ACF) aims to provide opportunities for young people to build personal skills and self-confidence to help them become responsible and caring citizens.  The Salters’ Company has been affiliated to the SW London ACF since 1987.

London Northern District Sea Cadets

The Sea Cadets aim to provide personal development opportunities for young people, especially in a maritime context. The Salters’ Company has been affiliated to the London Northern District Sea Cadets since 1992.

Royal Air Force Air Cadets, London Wing

The RAF Air Cadets aim to provide personal development opportunities for young people through such activities as cyber and space to sports, flying and adventure training . The Salters’ Company has been affiliated to the RAF Air Cadets, London Wing, since 2019.

All three cadet units are national, voluntary youth organisation which are sponsored by the Ministry of Defence, but not part of it. They provide Guard of Honours as required at the Company’s formal functions and are invited to attend the Lord Mayor’s Show Day at Salters’ Hall. The Master and Clerk, and sometimes other members, are invited to attend cadet annual camps as well as other cadet events such as award ceremonies.
